Course Details

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T.)

As per WHO�s International classification of Health Workers , based on the International standard Classification of occupations 9 ISCO, 2008 revision) Physiotherapists assess, plan and implement rehabilitative programs that improve or restore human motor functions, maximize movement ability, relieve pain syndromes, and treat or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases and other impairments. They apply a broad range of physical therapies and techniques such as movement, ultrasound, heating, laser and other techniques. They may develop and implement programmes for screening and prevention of common physical aliments and disorders.

This undergraduate course in Physiotherapy (BPT) is to impart in depth knowledge and skill to a student to become competent in the techniques and develop the proper attitude required for the independent practice of physiotherapy

Objective of the study

� Acquisition of adequate theoretical and the practical knowledge foundation in the basic medical subjects
� Proficiency in the skills of basic physiotherapy procedures and techniques with adequate theoretical basic of allied science
� Ability to detect patho-physiological impairment of structural and functional deviations by using methodology of physical diagnosis to evaluate the disability prognosis.
� Competency in imparting the physiotherapeutic measure of specific choice towards preventive, curative, symptomatic and restorative or rehabilitative goals
� Acquisition of moral and ethical codes and conduct of professional practice in a dedicated manner with the patient welfare as the primary responsibility.
� After achieving competency and skill a physiotherapist should practice physiotherapy, and carry out treatment as an independent practitioners.

Candidates who have passed higher secondary examination of the Board of higher secondary education, Kerala or equivalent there to with 50% marks in biology separately and 50% marks in biology separately and 50% marks in physics , chemistry , and biology together are eligible.

As per university structure of programme

The duration of the course shall be four and half years including compulsory internship of six months. A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of physiotherapy course should have completed seventeen years of the age, as on 31st December of the year of the admission. Every candidate before admission to the course shall furnish to Principal of the institution a certificate of the medical fitness from the authorized government medical officer , to the effect, that the candidates is physically fit to undergo Physiotherapy course.

B.Sc.Optometry

AIMS OF THE COURSE

The course aims at carving out graduates in Optometry which will be well versed in
Helping the Ophthalmologist in his practice
Do refraction, contact lens fitting and orthoptic assessment independently
Involve and do special investigative procedures
To operate and maintain ophthalmic instruments
To maintain Ophthalmic theatre and Operating instruments
To run establish Optical shop

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for admission to the course shall have passed the Pre-Degree examination of the Kerala university or any other examination equivalent thereto, recognized by the Kerala University with 50% marks in science subjects Group II in Physics, chemistry and Biology with usual relaxation allowed by the government of Kerala for scheduled tribes and other backward classes.

COURSE OF STUDY

The course shall comprise of the theoretical and practical studies in different branches of Optometry and its related subjects.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The duration of the course shall be 3(three) years. Approximately 250 working days in an year with a minimum of 6 hours per day which works approximately 1450 working hours per year. After the 3rd year. After the 3rd year, they have to do a compulsory rotating internship in various specially departments for one year.

MASTER OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION (M.H.A.)

STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME

Master of Hospital administration programme of 2 years duration. First year consists of 7 theory papers and a project of 15 days duration. Second year consists of 6 theory papers and a project of 45 days duration. Skill development in hospital administration is also part of the curriculum. The projects are done in various multispecialty hospitals throughout the country.

M.Sc.MEDICAL PHYSIOLOGY

COURSE OBJECTIVES

� Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of human body as related to physiology
� Plan & Conduct research
� Organise& equip physiology laboratories
� Organise the laboratories for various practical exercise, substitute & fabricate some of the simpler equipment for teaching purpose and
� Handle & order for stores, draw up lists of equipments required for physiology laboratories.

The candidates seeking admission to the course should have passed any of the following (B.Sc.Physiology,B.Sc.Zoology,B.Sc.Biochemistry,B.Sc.Biophysics,B.Sc.MLT,B.Sc.Nursing, BPT,B.Sc.Biotechnology,B.Sc.Microbiology) courses with a minimum of 60% marks and any of these courses (BHMS, BAMS and BDS) with 55% marks in the qualifying examination from a recognized university.

Masters program in Optometry is designed to produce graduates of high standards in research who are equipped with appropriate skills to meet the challenges and problems of primary eye care in a selected specialization.

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME

Acquiring a Masters in Optometry will offer the candidate a confident platform to:
Practice optometry independently.
Become primary eye care service provider in Eye hospitals/clinics.
Earn key posts in academic institutions including teaching and research.
Work in military and public health service.
Offer clinical services to multinationals dealing with manufacturing and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, low vision devices, contact lenses and ophthalmic instruments.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Bachelor in Optometry from any recognized University with minimum 60% marks.
Preference will be given for students with at least one year clinical/teaching experience.

MASTER OF PHYSIOTHERAPY(M.P.T)

COURSE OBJECTIVES

To gain knowledge of the human body related basic medical and physiotherapeutic sciences relevant to the concerned specialties.
To gain in knowledge of movement dysfunction of human body and evidence based physiotherapeutic management for movement dysfunction and to develop skills in physiotherapy assessment pertaining to their speciality by relevant current physiotherapeutic concepts.
To plan an implement appropriate physiotherapeutic intervention for all clinical conditions related to respective speciality in acute and chronic phases, criticalcare, indoor and outdoor institutional care and independent practice.
To develop skills as a self-directed learner, recognize continuous education needs, select and use appropriate learning resources and to demonstrate managerial, administrative skills and the legislation applicable to compensation for functional disability and appropriate certification.
To develop ability to teach post graduate and undergraduate physiotherapy students.
To train students to undertake further research in physiotherapy.
Acquainting student with concept of quality of care at the institutional as well as the community levels.

STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME

The duration of the course shall be two academic years.
