At the Little Flower Hospital, on its having completed 50 years of service and after its golden jubilee celebrations, a small research division was started during the year 1987 under Dr.J.K.Mukkadan. with the blessings of  H. Em. Antony Cardinal Padiyara

Mahatma Gandhi University recognized this department as a research centre in physiology for Ph.D. programme during 1991 and ten research scholars were awarded Ph.D. in physiology from this centre. Recently Kerala University of Health science has recoganised LIMSAR as a Centre of research for Ph.D.
